Carolyn Hutchings Edlund My work is about the beauty of the natural world as well as the craft of painting itself. I value the characteristics present in both - composition, varied textures, and the power of light and color. I intend the stillness of my scenes to bring to mind times long past and the luminosity to suggest a slight enchantment. Many find the paintings an escape, the meandering paths and waters avenues for adventure. Yet, some find the scenes familiar - perhaps the backyard they grew up in, a road they took once, or a landscape more interior. My working method, which emphasizes the importance of each brushstroke, creates an intimate experience for my viewers. I employ traditional techniques and the finest quality watercolors and oils to create landscapes with atmosphere and depth. These mediums allow me to portray the ephemeral beauty of our world in a lasting manner. I am drawn to portraiture as well as equine and canine subjects. Yet, many of my landscapes are without a protagonist, allowing the viewer to walk into the scene, or perhaps more accurately, to stand in the grass at the edge of the scene and breathe a breath of fresh air. Carolyn Edlund is a master artist known and collected internationally. Her works are in collections in Canada, England, Germany, France, Italy, and the United States. Edlund's work has been published in American Arts Quarterly, American Artist and Island Living (UK). |
