Scott Balfe Born on the same day as famed Hudson River School painter Thomas Cole, Scott Thomas Balfe is often teased about the coincidence. Although more than 150 years separate their births, their shared passion for the Catskill Mountains has inspired both Cole and Balfe to create luminous landscape paintings. Balfe places wildlife into some of his landscapes which helps to illustrate his deep feelings for the natural world.Balfe chose to move to the Catskills to be in constant touch with the Catskill motifs
